    18th September 2014.

National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is an initiative by the IITs (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and IISc, supported by MHRD to enhance the quality of engineering and science education in the country by developing contents for undergraduate and postgraduate curricula using video and web-based courses. VPKBIET has been identified as a Competent Lead Centre of NPTEL. In view of this, NPTEL Chairman Dr. R. K. Shevgaonkar (Former Director, IIT, Delhi) along with other eminent faculties from IITs addressed th "Importance of NPTEL Initiative in Teaching & Learning" at VPKBIET on September 18 , 2014. Around 200 faculties from various Engineering colleges across Maharashtra participated in this event.

Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE)

VPKBIET is now connected through Pilot programme by MHRD, Govt. of India and IIT Madras, through which various online courses are available for students

Smart India Hackathon 2017

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India in collaboration with MyGov, NASSCOM, UGC, i4c and Persistent Systems is organizing an ambitious 'Smart India Hackathon 2017' involving all technology institutions (6500+) across India reaching out to 3- 5 million plus students. This initiative is led by Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, chairman AICTE. It aims to create a model where energy and creativity of these youngsters would be used to develop innovative digital solutions which will help build the nation. Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon'ble Minister for HRD, Govt. of India launched it on MyGov platform on 9th Nov. He is the Chief Patron for this initiative.

Smart India Hackathon 2017 will be world's biggest Hackathon till date and it is hoped that it gets cited in the Guinness Book of World Records. The Grand Finale will be organized at 25+ centers/cities distributed all over India.

The main USP of our 'Smart India Hackathon 2017' initiative is that the problem statements have been identified by 25+ Govt. ministries/ institutions/departments based on their requirements and will be used to challenge students for developing innovative digital solutions. These includes Ministry of Railways, External Affairs Ministry, Ministry of Defense, Indian Space Research Organization, Dept. of Atomic Energy, etc. Till date, approximately 600 problems statements have been proposed and can be viewed on http://innovate.mygov.in/sih2017 and www.i4c.co.in . I would personally encourage all technology students in India to participate in this nationwide initiative.

To promote this initiative, AICTE has launched India's Idea Leadership talk series, where different leaders from the industry talk on Facebook Live session every day until Jan 20, 2017. I have been invited to host one such leadership talk on Jan 6, 2017 at 11.00 AM where I will be speaking about 'Need of Hackathon culture in India'. The talk can be viewed on Facebook Live (Link: https://www.facebook.com/InclusiveInnovations/ )

IIT Bombay has decided to run a special training program on hackathons, in our remote centers, on 16 January 2017. More details will soon be available at http://www.it.iitb.ac.in/nmeict/smarthack2017.html
